Beijing: On the brown slopes and other Winter Olympic venues around Beijing, which is basically arid, China will produce a large amount of artificial snow to pave ski trails and jumping platforms, but China has not yet been able to manufacture one thing-high-quality snow equipment.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) lamented in a notice on Wednesday that the domestic production of ice and snow equipment is "basically blank" and the industry is "mainly dominated by foreign brands."

According to industry estimates, European brands account for 60% of the global winter sports supply chain, while American companies account for 30%.

The ministry stated that China’s establishment of a special working group to draft and promote production standards for equipment such as snow making machines, snow preparation machines, and all-terrain snowmobiles is “urgent”.

The ministry added that the focus should be on the production of high-end equipment, but ultimately the leader in all equipment categories.

China hopes to turn 300 million people into skiers and skiers in the next few years and expects the value of the industry to reach RMB 1 trillion (US$149.19 billion) by 2025.

As of 2020, China has more than 700 ski resorts and about 1,000 ice skating rinks.

Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Games from February 4th to February 20th.
