CHICAGO — Two weeks into the season, there are still teams who have only played two games, most notably the series between the Tri-City Storm and Omaha Lancers that has been now postponed twice due to the lack of ice and new ice equipment being installed at the Viaero Center, home rink for the Storm.

Tri-City's practices have also faced disruption with the team traveling 135 miles to practice at a rink in Lincoln, Neb.

“We’ve been traveling four hours for practice every day,” Tri-City head coach Anthony Noreen told the Kearney Hub . “We’ve challenged these guys from Day 1 that no matter what the circumstances are, we can either let it define our season or we could make sure that we don’t use it as an excuse. The resiliency of this team in the early goings has been the most impressive thing. I’ve yet to hear a single complaint or a guy moan about what we’ve gone through. I think that’s carried through into their games.”

The Storm and the Viaero Center said in a joint release: "Finalizing this install is going to create a great on ice experience for the Tri-City Storm and allow the Viaero Center to provide entertainment throughout the full calendar year."

The new ice system is just the first part of a large expansion project to improve the Viaero Center, the statement said. Ice issues in March also caused the cancellation of a Disney on Ice performance at the arena.

Both the Lancers and Storm played their last games at the USHL Fall Classic in Pittsburgh. They were set to face-off in a Week 2 matchup that was originally scheduled for Sept. 30 and then moved to Oct. 2. However, that date is now pushed back once again and has yet to be announced. With two games under their belt on the season and a week off from action, the Lancers will take on the Storm on their home ice Friday, and then take hit the road to take on the Lincoln Stars Saturday. Following the Storm's trip to Omaha, they will head to Waterloo to play the Black Hawks on Saturday.

In Des Moines, the Buccaneers are another team that has been facing issues with ice-making equipment at their home rink and have been playing at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex in West Des Moines. The Buccaneers won their "home opener" Oct. 1 against the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-3 the the RecPlex. The series between the Buccaneers and Dubuque Fighting Saints scheduled for Oct. 15 has been officially moved to The RecPlex.

In addition to the Storm and Lancers game that was postponed from Week 2, the USHL also announced a number of other schedule changes, some that will affect Week 4 of the season and then some that won't show their impact until late winter.
