Gregory Roland Austin of Suamico, Wisconsin departed this life on June 16, 2022. He was born in Green Bay on April 9, 1963 and was a lifelong resident of the greater Green Bay area. He graduated from Bay Port High School in Howard and, in 1983, earned an Associate Degree in Instrumentation from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Greg married Dawn Marie Dake on August 6, 1988, and they were devoted to each other for thirty-three years. In October 2021, Greg retired from his supervisory position at DePere Cabinet to spend time pursuing his passions. One was fishing. He was an avid angler year-round and created a keepsake photo album containing dozens of pictures of his most prized catches. Greg enjoyed ice-fishing even in the most frigid weather as much as he enjoyed deep-sea fishing in Florida and Mexico. When he wasn’t fishing, you might find him scouting out potentially productive fishing holes. Greg excelled at everything he attempted. He could take apart any type of machine or vehicle and reassemble it in his sleep. He enjoyed league bowling for most of his life and rolled more than one perfect game. He loved camping weekends with his family and his cherished friends, whom he considered his extended family. He also enjoyed vacationing in Mexico and the Caribbean islands with his wife, Dawn. Pontiac GTO’s were another of Greg’s passions, and he always owned at least one antique model that he was in the process of restoring. His most recent purchase wasn’t a project car, though, but rather a mint-condition 1968 2-door ragtop. He and Dawn enjoyed tooling around the countryside with the top down on sunny summer afternoons. Greg never seemed to notice human flaws and never made an enemy. He saw the good in people’s hearts and was always ready to rush to the assistance of anyone who needed his help. In addition to his wife, Greg leaves behind three siblings—Michele (David Glazier) in Florida, Stephen in California, and Danielle (Michael Rauch) in Wisconsin, and eight nieces and nephews—Anne Gretzinger, Tyler Gretzinger, and James (Danielle) Austin, all in Florida; Chloe Rauch, Lexie Rauch, and Marissa Peters in Wisconsin; and Tyler and Sydney Stauffacher in Howard. He is also survived by his beloved in-laws, Daniel and Gail Carrick of Suamico, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Debra Stauffacher of Howard. Greg was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Diane Austin who were long-time residents of Howard. A memorial celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Friday July 29th from 4:30-7:00 pm at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home in Howard.
